Print the syllabus below for the Puritan unit, which we will begin after we complete the summer reading essay. The next two documents will be necessary for possible "Challenge" sessions. The last three documents are for your private edification.
Both Short Fiction and College Composition and Literary Analysis students should print the appropriate course description and the additional materials below for our first class meeting. We will discuss all of these to begin the course.
Honors American Literature students should print this course description (prospectus) and the supporting course information for our first class meeting. We will discuss all of this information to begin the course.
You will be asked to submit two (2) of the "125pp" worksheets, four (4) of the Lit Crit/MLA Source Sheets, and one (1) peer review: all are below. (You will also submit an outline, but that requires no worksheet from me to be posted here.) It will be your responsibility to follow the syllabus, print the pages you need, and submit the assignment on the due date as outlined on the syllabus. Expect little class time to be devoted to the research paper; the idea is for you to complete this mostly on your own. Like college. Like six months from now. When you're a freshman again.
I've also attached a sample outline and four sample essays. You will see, too, other helpful documents here. Print away.
